Reminder

Hello Families!
I wanted to remind everyone that I will be out for some minor surgery from April 13th through the 28th. Miss Loddeke will be my substitute and everything is in place for her to continue with the work we are doing. I will certainly miss everyone, but I will be checking in often and will be back before you know it!

Olympic Day

Friday, May 20 is Olympic Day! There will be a climbing wall, tug ‘o war, crab soccer, relay races, and so much more! Students in grades 1, 3, and 5 will participate in the morning, and students in grades K, 2, and 4 will participate in the afternoon.

If you would like to volunteer for half a day, a full day, or just get more information, please contact Mrs. Patterson at epatterson@op97.org or Lori Bradford at ldemain@sbcglobal.net. Lunch will be provided for all volunteers. Your help to make this a fun day for all children is greatly appreciated!

Family Reading Night is coming….

Tuesday, April 26th (6:30 – 7:30 p.m.)
“Read, Recite, Recycle”
*The “Recycle” part will again include a book swap!
*Begin collecting gently used children’s books.
*Bring the books to your homeroom teacher by Tuesday, April 19th.
*Your teacher will help you keep track of how many books you donate.
*Come to the Family Reading Night on the 26th, and you will take away “new” books to enjoy!
*There may be a limit of taking 7-10 books that evening. However, if you can donate more, that will help us make another very successful book swap!

DO YOU HAVE AN EPIC COLLECTION?

On May 3rd, Longfellow will be welcoming Paula Kluth for its annual author night. Her book, Pedro’s Whale, tells a heartwarming story about a boy who loves whales and eventually begins to collect pictures of them, with the help of his classmates. In anticipation for Longfellow’s author night, we want to know what you collect!

Do you collect rocks, Legos, cars, comic books, stickers, erasers, anything at all? If so, we want to display your collection in Longfellow’s display case! Collections should be contained in a clear zip lock bag, not exceeding 12” by 12”. If you do not have a zip lock bag, one will be provided for you when you drop off your collection. If your entire collection does not fit in the bag, choose your favorite items to display. Collections can be dropped off in the POD area Monday-Friday beginning at 7:45 a.m. Please submit your collection by Friday, April 8th. It will be on display the week of April 11th, April 18th, or April 25th and will be returned to you on or before May 6th. If you have additional questions please contact Gretchen.junker@sbcglobal.net
Thank you,
Gretchen Junker, Mrs. Pasquinelli, Mr. Podlasek, and your PTO
